Chuteside is very new to us but the videos of how it works have been very helpful as we try and figure it out.

We really like Chuteside. There is a lot of customization ability with regards to input fields, as well as reference fields. Even on a smaller laptop, there is a great deal of visible data that is viewable while working cattle. We use an EID reader through Bluetooth and connect our scale head with a cable. This has allowed for a lot less data entry error as those two entries simply require the touch of a couple buttons. Both connections work flawlessly. The program runs fast, so it doesn’t slow us down at the chute. Measures is a nice feature to view ADG and weight changes on the fly. A person is able to pre-sort or make selection details ahead of time and then view groups while working cattle. We have tried other chute side type programs, and this is by far the best one. The data appears safe, as we have never had an issue with lost data. Chuteside is a great addition to NxGen Pro.

We purchased Chuteside a few years ago and haven’t used it as much as we probably should. The hang up for us, is when we are preconditioning/weaning/ and taking yearling measurements, the bulls and heifers are not separated by breed and it is hard to switch between breeds on the laptop and still keep up with the pace of critters coming through the chute. The other hang up for us, is that we do not have an inside working facility. Most of our paperwork happens on a makeshift table or just on the clipboard. Bottomline, the program is excellent for those that have a nice facility to work in as well as one herd file.
Customer Service –
Thank you for the comments, Laura! As a suggestion, you might consider having us combine your herds. You can keep cattle separate by breed within a herd file. There are several options for doing this. Chuteside would then work seamlessly. Also, there are a number of options for ruggedized equipment with day-light readable screens for outdoors use. We have many customers who use Chuteside outdoors. Finally, don’t overlook the option to use Chuteside in the office. Chuteside’s uniquely flexible way of viewing and editing your records is handy no matter where you work. -Jim

We have been using Chuteside for the past two years, and appreciate the ease of use and the ability it gives us to only “handle” certain data points once. The ability to scan EIDs, DNA barcodes, and record weights directly from the scale have been very helpful. Tim was a patient and knowledgeable resource in getting set up and running with Chuteside and the external readers and scale. The program and support has been very good!

Chuteside works great to enter new data and to review progeny, parents, and history while processing an animal. The best feature of Chuteside is the ability to mark an animal so when it comes through the chute the program highlights the input section, alerting me that additional attention is needed.

We use chuteside in the barn and in the office. We use it to enter the EID and DNA sample that corresponds with each animal. We also use it to enter Preg data, Cow weight, yearling wts, and weaning wts.

Chuteside is great when working cattle in the barn. We can input data directly into the animal record at the chute and bring everything back to office. I use it in the office as well to input preg data, cow weights and any other data needed to go into the records.
