Cow Sense NextGen Pro is an irreplaceable tool on our cattle ranch. We collect a lot of data on every animal on our ranch from birth to slaughter and there is no way that we could manage this data without this program. I appreciate the all-encompassing data fields and the fact that I can customize my own data fields to allow for data entry that is pretty specific to our operation. The ability to import or export data to Excel is great. We recently started using the companion program, Chuteside, and I can’t express enough how this has even further simplified data recording and management for us. And to go with this excellent program is the excellent support! The Knowledge Base & Tutorials in Cow Sense Corral have helped me figure things out on my own, and if I can’t find my answer there, my emails to support are replied promptly and they are extremely helpful. I would (and have) highly recommend Cow Sense NextGen Pro!

I have been using cow sense since 2008 and we upgraded to Nx Gen Pro when it was released.
We also have Chute side and pocket cow sense. I have worked with both Nx
Gen and chute side extensively over the years and have really started to
appreciate all the data that has been collected. By using the reports on
each cow for progeny, within a few years we were able to streamline our
herd to have cows who year after year produced strong healthy calves. We
were able to start selling replacement quality heifers from our herd,
this was partly due to the data that I have collected over the years on
the Dams. Our herd health has improved too as we were able to see over
time what cows had calves that were more prone to sickness or hoof rots
ect. With out this program, it would be near impossible. We looked at
lots of other programs and some of them have better interfaces that are
easier to use but what you gain in simplicity, you lose in the details
and its the details that have enabled us to improve our herd. I love
that you can export and import using excel. That is a tool I use all the
time. Some other programs may have similar features to what I have mentioned
but the 2 areas that Cow sense beats them hands down on is, 1.the cost
of this program. 2, The details you get from the program. It is a lot
cheaper than any other program I have looked at that is able to get me
anywhere close to the amount of detail that you can access from this
program. There is an investment of both time and money, but it is worth
it.

We purchased Cow Sense NG Pro about three years ago. We had a previous computer program with about 50 years of our cow herds data. We were able to import those records to Cow Sense. I am happy with the ease of inputting data (calving, breeding, treatments, and location). The detailed reports are very helpful when making management decisions about our herd.

We have used CowSense since the 1990’s and adopted NxGen when it came out. We use the add ons of Chuteside and Pocket CowSense. We have EID’d all cows and put an eid in each calf when they are born. The use of the EID and Pocket Cowsense has aided us in getting data put into Cowsense quickly and accurately. Having eids in all cattle allows us to quickly pull up an animal and its history when cattle are worked. We use Chuteside and a scale to take weights each time calves go through the chute. Both EID reader and Scale synch via Bluetooth back to laptop sitting next to the chute. The weights taken are used to track performance through weaning, backgrounding and onto grass. We estimate sale weights and sale groups based on those weights. CowSense has been a large part of how we process and track cattle and I would recommend it to anyone considering it.

We transitioned to NxGen Pro when it came available after using previous versions of CowSense. While we are a commercial operation, the Pro features allow us to track much more individual data, as well as utilize Multi-Sire groups. Our herd records go back to the late 1980’s and CowSense helps us maintain that database. It took a little time to get used to the new format of NxGen, as compared to older versions. The biggest thing we like about NxGen Pro is the ability to customize fields. NxGen Pro gives the user a lot of options for customization. The ability to import and export data using Excel is very helpful and very easy. The Global Edit functions come in very handy. We also appreciate the ability to add multiple notes to individual cattle. There is a great deal to like about the program and the people behind NxGen Pro. We highly recommend NxGen Pro.

We’ve used this program for years and the upgrade to NexGen Pro has been awesome. I love being able to input data and tab through all the fields I need. We also use the import function to add all registration numbers, names, EID’s etc to the program at a click of a button. The calving wizard, weaning and yearling are very helpful for putting in data for both our spring herds and fall herd. We have Red Angus, Charolais and a Angus herd and we are able to keep those herds separate and it makes record keeping a breeze. I do wish it was easier to submit data right to the associations to eliminate handling that data another time. Overall, we love it and will continue to use it.

I have used CowSense since the mid 90’s and have grow with the evolution of the program. It is one of the most comprehensive tools you will find to manage cattle. We have used NxGen Pro for years with the regular cowsense before that. It can produce any kind of report you can think of. The support is fantastic with a quick response time. There are plenty of tutorials to help understand the many different functions. My problem is I forget how to do things since weaning is once a year or creating a calving record. But I wouldn’t change programs for anything.

Cowsense has added a new dimension to our operation. It has helped us determine what bull breeds are producing the most pounds. By using a scale at weaning and each time thereafter and entering the data into Cowsense, we have learned a lot about our bulls that was counter to our traditional thoughts. We hope to turn this information into dollars as we make adjustments in our breeding program. Cowsense can be very useful if you take the time to keep the data up to date.

We have used Cow Sense since 1992. We have stuck with it because it works and it is cowboy friendly. You don’t have to have a lot of computer knowledge to operate Cow Sense. Things are laid out in manner that makes sense to cattlemen. Great customer support!

I have used another application for 4 years and very extensively. I evaluated all the applications I could find when I began to consider making a change and took several months doing it. The trial gave me a thorough review of the potential of the application. I wanted the PDA data collection capability also. Pocket Cow Sense exceeded my expectations. Cow Sense if very intuitive making it much easier to learn. Being fully Windows compatible makes it very easy to move data back and forth to Excel which is an extremely useful function. The “selection” capability allows an almost unlimited ways to look at the herd and easy to do. Moving four years of data over to Cow Sense went very very smooth. The technical support has been superior. They know the answers or get them quickly and are always friendly and professional. The ability to easily send your complete herd data to technical support to evaluate a problem makes the explaining of the issue very simple and facilitates a quick response. I could not be more pleased with my decision to move over to Cow Sense.

I have been using cowsense since 1999 and to date cannot issue a single complaint. I love the ease of the program and the way that I can export and import the data that I am using. Also, uploading my file for safe keeping is an added plus. I can’t say enough about the always friendly and professional support from the cowsense team!! They are constantly improving the software and have been very concientious of any special need that I have had. If you are thinking of Cowsense, stop thinking and just do it! Looked at several other programs for animal record keeping but found this to be the most comprehensive one that is still very user friendly.
